He was a healthy boy inside his mother for 41 weeks. During delivery, Kyan’s heart rate dropped dramatically and an emergency C-section was performed to get him out as quickly as possible. He was not breathing and did not have a heartbeat for the first 16 minutes of his life. The team was able to resuscitate him and he was immediately transferred to the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Due to the lack of oxygen during those 16 minutes, Kyan suffered severe brain damage.
The staff at Children’s Hospital was amazing given the state that Kyan was in. They allowed us to create a lifetime of memories with our baby boy. He watched the British Open Golf Tournament with his dad and he danced with his mom. On the last night of his life, we were able to go outside on the lawn of Children’s Hospital and look at the stars. Three hours later, Kyan passed away in his mother’s arms on August 8, 2013 in the NICU at Children’s Hospital. Kyan will always be known as our special star – and whenever we see shooting stars, we know our little boy is talking to us.
We owe so much to the incredible staff at Children’s Hospital.
We look forward to giving back to this amazing organization, while honoring Kyan’s life.
